Daudi was the only son of the most known Tanzanian painter Edward Saidi Tingatinga. The word Tingatinga is also the term for the whole art movement.
Born in 1966, the life of Daudi was not easy. His father died when he was a baby leaving behind his wife and two children. He was living in poverty and his mother Agatha did not have enough money for food or to educate her children. He was taught by Mzee Lumumba, a first generation Tinga Tinga painter himself and Daudi painted in a similar style to his father to honour his memory.
